The WDT tool is beautiful, what the pictures cannot show is the smooth texture and nuances in the color of the wood, it is truly a work of art as well as a tool. From a practical standpoint after I included the WDT tool in my workflow my extractions got from 6 to 8 seconds slower with all other conditions being equal, I also stopped getting the occasional sputters when using a bottomless portafilter. It uses .35 acupuncture needles which is thin enough to distribute the coffee nicely but still thick enough to avoid bending the needles while using the tool, there are also several spare needles included in the package.
While I still need to improve my technique I cannot imagine making shots without the tool, it has become one of my favorite accessories.
